Announcing the S.J. Hall Lecture in Industrial Forestry
On behalf of the Center for Forestry and the College of Natural Resources at the University of California, Berkeley, it is my privilege to invite you to the S.J. Hall Lecture in Industrial Forestry, This year, the lecture will be delivered on October 15, 2004.
Established in 1969, the S. J. Hall Lecture brings leading observers of the forestry sector to speak to the campus community and the public on topics concerned with industrial forestry and related matters.

Topic: "Making Sustainable Forestry Work: Trees, Land, People and Business"
Speaker: Paul Harlan
Mr Harlan is Vice President, Resources, of The Collins Companies. Collins is a national leader in sustainable forestry, and has been exemplary in its application of certification. Collins bridges two important concerns-business and sustainable forestry. Forest certification is now more than a decade old. Collins' experience is invaluable in helping to gauge the progress that is possible Paul Harlan also serves as Chair of the Forest Stewardhip Council (FSC) -United States. The FSC is an independent, not for profit, non-government organisation engaged in standard setting, trademark assurance and accreditation services for companies and organisations interested in environmentally and socially sound forestry
