On behalf of the Center for Forestry and the College of Natural Resources at the University of California, Berkeley, it is my privilege to invite you to the S.J. Hall Lecture in Industrial Forestry, This year, the lecture will be delivered on Friday, October 12,2007.

Established in 1969, the S. J. Hall Lecture brings leading observers of the forestry sector to speak to the campus community and the public on topics concerned with industrial forestry and related matters.

Date and Time: Friday, October 12;  4:00-5:30 pm
Location: Great Hall, Bancroft Hotel, 2680 Bancroft Way

Topic: "Forest Products: Part of a sustainable future"

Speaker: Dr. Ian de la Roche, President and CEO of FPInnovations, Canada

This lecture will address issues around global depletion of non-renewable resources, climate change and the future role that lignocellulose, particularly forests, will play in providing goods and services that are renewable and leave a much softer environmental foot print. It will also highlight some of the exciting new technologies that will not only help transform the forest products sector, but also provide considerable benefits to society. Dr. de la Roche is President and CEO of FPInnovations, Canada. Formed in 2006 it is the world's largest private forestry and forest products research institute.
